Black Knight
Disco’s was founded
in
1970 by David Wilkinson, a young man living in the village of Beighton,
Sheffield. However it was not long before David moved to the Northeast
studying Design Technology at Sunderland Polytechnic. It was at this
time that David began to DJ two nights a week at a local nightclub,
where in 1973 he met his now wife Pauline.
Over the following years Black
Knight
Disco’s became a family affair. Although David remained the main DJ,
Pauline would also DJ and over the following years as they started a
family, Pauline became more involved with the customer service and
accounts side of the business. As the years rolled on, the business grew
from strength to strength; weddings, rock nights, ballroom dancing,
children’s parties, discos and charity events were all catered for by
one of the 18 DJ’s who found work through the business.
As the Wilkinson family expanded to include daughters Claire & Nikki
(identical twins), and their youngest Lisa. The business became more
family orientated and all three daughters enjoyed helping out at every
opportunity, all be it child’s play. Introducing songs, illustrating
dance steps and helping their dad build disco equipment, are remembered
fondly by the girls. Today it is no wonder that all three children are
involved in the running of the business to some degree.
In more recent years Nikki
who has 15 years experience of working with children and who also works
as a ‘Classroom Assistant’, supporting disabled children in a local
school, helped to build up the ‘Noo Noo’s’ side of the business.
Noo Noo’s offers a team of
entertainers, specific to children’s parties, face painting and such
like.
Over time the business has
been streamlined and refined in order to stay focused on the businesses
core values of family entertainment, quality and current trends. Today
the business operates with a small tight knit team of family and
experienced colleagues, however if we are fully booked we are more than
happy to put you in contact with our associates. With 40 years
experience we have worked with many of the established businesses in the
local area and operate with true family business ethics.
